# BackupAssist Classic With Wasabi

[BackupAssist Classic](https://www.backupassist.com/classic/overview) has been validated for use with Wasabi. For information on how BackupAssist Classic works with Wasabi, refer to [BackupAssist](https://wasabi.com/backupassist). Follow the steps below to configure Wasabi as a backup destination.

### Requirements

- Active Wasabi Cloud storage account (see [Create a Wasabi Account](https://wasabi.com/sign-up)).
- Wasabi bucket. Using Object Lock on your bucket is highly recommended from a security perspective so your data will be immutable for the amount of time configured in BackupAssist Classic. For more information, review [Working With Buckets and Objects](https://docs.wasabi.com/docs/working-with-buckets-and-objects).
- Access & Secret Key Pair. For more information, review [Creating a User Account and Access Key](https://docs.wasabi.com/docs/creating-a-user-account-and-access-key).
- BackupAssist Classic v12.0.3 or higher. This was most recently tested with 15.0.0. A minimum version of 14.0.4 is required for immutability.

## Backup to Wasabi

5. Under the Schedule tab, select **Daily**, **Basic**, or **Grandfather-father-son** scheme. In our example we selected **Daily**. Set the desired backup schedule and click **Next**.

> [!NOTE]
> The Daily scheme must be used for immutable backups (with Wasabi buckets that have Object Lock enabled). This configuration with immutability is highly recommended.

6. Under the Set up destination tab, provide the following.
  - **Wasabi S3 Bucket**—Enter the name of your Wasabi bucket.
  - **Region**—Select the region in which to store your data. Click **...** and the following selection list will appear.![](https://cdn.document360.io/bef0a1ea-7768-4d5a-b520-c4fe2f7fafad/Images/Documentation/Screenshot 2026-01-06 at 12.55.23 PM.png)

> [!NOTE]
> This configuration example discusses the use of Wasabi's us-east-1 storage region. To use other Wasabi storage regions, use the appropriate Wasabi region that your bucket is located in as described in [Where is my data stored and how are Wasabi's storage regions secured?](https://docs.wasabi.com/docs/where-is-my-data-stored-and-how-are-wasabis-storage-regions-secured).
  - **Access Key ID**—Input your Wasabi Access Key.
  - **Secret Access Key**—Input your Wasabi Secret Key.
  - **Encryption Password & Confirm Encryption Password**—Used to encrypt the backup. BackupAssist Classic’s Cloud Backup encrypts all data before sending it to Wasabi.

> [!NOTE]
> Save the password in a secure location as it will be required for any recovery activity later.
  - **Enable cloud immutable backups**

> [!WARNING]
> **It is highly recommended to enable cloud immutable backups to help prevent accidental or malicious deletion or modification of your backup data.**
  - **Backup retention policy**—The amount of time to keep your backups. If immutability is being used, this will be the amount of time your backups will be immutable for.
