# Public Access Override: Enabling/Disabling

> Public access makes a folder available to any Internet user. This includes the ability to read objects from the bucket. Make sure there is no sensitive data in a folder that you make public.

> Certain paid accounts (not trial accounts) can change this with the Public Access Override setting for a bucket if the Wasabi account was established before March 13, 2023. Accounts created after this date cannot enable public access using the Console or CLI. Wasabi recommends that you use another option, such as [presigned URLs](https://docs.wasabi.com/docs/working-with-folders-and-files#sharing-a-file-with-a-presigned-url), to share your documents. If you require public bucket access, contact [Wasabi Support](mailto:support@wasabi.com) for assistance.

You can enable and disable public access as described below. Any Internet user will have access. Or, you can [use a policy](https://docs.wasabi.com/docs/bucket-access) to make access available to:

- Specific IP addresses
- Public (any Internet user)

## Enabling or Disabling Public Access

1. To indicate that the bucket should have public access, click ![](https://cdn.document360.io/bef0a1ea-7768-4d5a-b520-c4fe2f7fafad/Images/Documentation/image-1698327400423.png) for the desired bucket on the Buckets list.
2. Click **Settings**.
3. On the Properties panel, open the **Public Access Override**drop-down.

4. Slide to **Enable Public Access**. This overrides policies related to permissions on the bucket and can give anyone on the Internet read access to it. Turn off the override if you want to return the bucket's public access status to its default state.
5. When enabling public access, a message reminds you that public access to your bucket is available, and anyone on the Internet will have access to read objects from the bucket.

Click **OK**to continue. (You can select the Disable Public Access option to reverse this action.)

When public access is enabled, **Enabled******is shown for the bucket in the Public Access column on the Bucket List panel. Default is the status before the public access is changed. If you enable and then disable public access, the status changes to Disabled.
