How can I add a new source and target pair?

You can use a locally mounted NTFS/ReFS volume, an SMB/NFS network share, or just a folder on the volume/share as a source.

You cannot set a folder as a source if its parent folder is already paired with a target.
    1. Select Wasabi Cloud NAS in the left panel in the Wasabi Cloud NAS Client.
    2. Click Add Source.

    3. Select a folder or network drive you want to replicate to a target bucket in Wasabi Cloud. You can also create a new folder and use that as the source.
    4. Add the Wasabi target information:
      — Provide a name for the target.
      — Select the appropriate region. (This auto-populates the Server URL.)
      — Enter the access and secret keys. (While using an existing target, you can select that to auto-populate the keys.)
      — Click List Buckets and select from the listed bucket(s) to pair it with the newly added source.
Alternatively, click Create Bucket, select a region of your choice, and enter a bucket name. When done, click OK.

    5. Click Apply to apply the changes.
    6. Bucket settings provide an option to enable Bucket Versioning or Compliance on the bucket, if required.
When you enable Compliance on the bucket, Cloud NAS automatically sets the corresponding local folder/drive to WORM, which restricts edits and/or deletes actions in the local folder. Editing a file in the local folder creates and saves a new file, which gets replicated to the Wasabi Cloud as a new version.

    7. Click Apply when done.
    8. Be sure to click Resume. (Click WCN on the top left panel and Resume at the bottom.)

This completes the steps to configure a new source-target pair on Wasabi Cloud NAS.

How can I replicate just one file instead of replicating all the files from a folder?

This product feature will be available with the next version upgrade for the Wasabi Cloud NAS Client. Today, the entire folder (all objects in the source folder) is replicated to the Wasabi Cloud.

How can I configure a replication policy for a source-target pair?

Replication Policy: Using the Wasabi Cloud NAS Client, you can specify when a file should be replicated to the Wasabi Cloud from the source folder. The replication policy replicates files from the source folder to the Wasabi Cloud if the files are not modified for a certain period. These files are added to the replication queue. The replication policy time setting defaults to a minute that can be changed to a different duration in seconds, minutes, days, or weeks as per the requirements.  The replication policy can be applied in two ways:

    1. Global Replication Policy: Valid for all source-target pairs.
    2. Source Target Specific Replication Policy: Overwrites the Global policy by specifying different parameters for a given source-target pair.

    Global Replication Policy

    1. Click Replication Policy from the left panel in the Wasabi Cloud NAS Client.

    2. On the right panel, specify the time after which an unchanged source file should be sent to the queue for replicating that file to the Wasabi Cloud.
    3. Click Apply.

    Source Target Specific Replication Policy

    1. Select the source from the left panel in the Wasabi Cloud NAS Client. For example:

    2. Click Add Policy, located at the bottom left of the Wasabi Cloud NAS Client.
    3. In the Policy Type dialog, select Replicate and click OK.

    4. Under the selected source, click on the replication policy.
    5. In the right panel, specify the time after which an unchanged source file should be sent to the replication queue for replicating that file to the Wasabi Cloud.
    6. Click Apply.

How do I monitor the status of files being managed by Wasabi Cloud NAS?

There are two ways (each described below) to view the status of the files managed by the Wasabi Cloud NAS Client:

    • Statistics Window
    • Tray Icon

    Statistics Window

    1. Open the Wasabi Cloud NAS Client and select a source to view the real-time statistics of all the files managed by the Wasabi Cloud NAS Client for the selected source.
    2. Click the Statistics button. For example:

This opens a modal dialog displaying the Wasabi tabs of the overall Folder properties. For example:

    mceclip1.png

    The following information is provided:

    • Total number of files and total size on the Wasabi Cloud.
    • Size and number of unprocessed, excluded, modified, pending, replicated, and files failed to replicate.
    • Number of files and their size on the disk of the source.
    • Number of files and their size, which were reclaimed on the source.

    Tray Icon

The Windows-provided tray in the Windows taskbar, generally found in the bottom right corner, can be used to view the status of the files managed by the Wasabi Cloud NAS Client.

    1. Right-click the Cloud NAS tray icon (located near the system tray).
    2. Select the Show pending files option:

The tray icon changes colors to reflect the status of the replication process and overall service health. Below are the different tray icon visual identifiers and what they mean.

error — Some of the files submitted for replication failed. Moving the cursor over the tray icon shows the number of failed files.

paused — The operations are paused.

pending — Fles are waiting to be replicated. Once files are replicated, the icon turns green. Moving the cursor over the icon shows the number of pending files.

stopped — The service is stopped.

tray - The service is running normally.

warning — A license is not activated or has expired. The tray icon changes to represent the lack of product activation or inability so users can re-acquire a license to start using those services again.

Which files are automatically "excluded" from replication?

All excluded file statistics are displayed on the Wasabi tab in the Properties menu of a folder. For example:

    mceclip1.png

Wasabi Cloud NAS automatically excludes the following files/folders:

    • Files within the folder(s) explicitly excluded by the Global Replication policy.
    • Files residing in the following folders:
      • PowerShell
      • TemporaryItems
      • Spotlight-V100
      • Recycled
      • $Recycle.BIN
      • Recycler
      • DS_Store
    • Files with an associated OFFLINE flag.
    • Encrypted files and folders. (Use Properties > General > Advanced… > Encrypt contents to secure data.)

Can I move the Control Folder to a different location?

When a source is a network share versus a local share on the Windows Server, Wasabi Cloud NAS requires that a new folder is configured as a Control Folder. The Control Folder is used only for storing stub file copies of the actual files on the network share. The Control Folder facilitates data retrieval to the network share if you enable space reclaiming.

The Control Folder can be moved only within the same volume. To move the Control Folder:

    1. Pause Wasabi Cloud NAS service from the Configuration Interface.
    2. Delete the Source (this does not delete any data).
    3. Use the Move command (not Copy) on the new location (Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V).
    4. Add the Source again and point Wasabi Cloud NAS to the Control Folder in the new location.
    5. When prompted, select the Take no action option.
    6. Resume Wasabi Cloud NAS service.

These steps will work only if the Control Folder is moved within the same volume.

How can I filter files for Wasabi Cloud NAS space reclamation based on the extension?

In Wasabi Cloud NAS, the space reclamation can ignore certain file extensions using a filter setting in the Windows registry. By default, files with extensions such as EXE, DLL, SYS, COM, CPL, MSI, and OCX are ignored and their space will not be reclaimed.

To change this setting and enable space reclamation for executable files (EXE):

    1. Click Windows+R.
    2. Enter regedit:

    3. Go to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wasabi\tiger-bridge\tiersvc\settings
    4. From the available options, select the key reclaim_space_filterand right-click to modify it.

    5. By default, the selected key will contain !:exe:dll:sys:com:cpl:msi:ocx:
Change the value to !:dll:sys:com:cpl:msi:ocx: by removing the exe:(note that each value must be delimited with colons).

    6. Restart the server. Wasabi Cloud NASshould start automatically in the Windows tray, and then your EXE files will be replaced by stub files and the space will be reclaimed.

By following these steps, you should see your executable files offloaded to your bucket.

The video file will play back from the cloud as needed for editing. Once done editing and saving the file, it will be replicated and reclaimed in your bucket after meeting your policy settings.

How does the "Preserve File Security Descriptor" feature work?

During the initial setup, if the File Descriptor Flag is not checked, all the files from the source will be synced to the Wasabi Cloud without the security descriptor metadata. If this flag is checked in the Wasabi Cloud NAS Client after the sync, the security descriptor for all new files created in the source will be synced and preserved. To preserve the security descriptor for the files synced before the flag was checked, files must be updated at source.
