This article describes the procedure to use [Wasabi Object Replication](https://docs.wasabi.com/docs/bucket-replication) to replicate objects from one region to another within the same continent. This can be used to recover from natural disasters or other events in a region. > [!NOTE] > The data restoration process is handled by your specific backup software application. As many variables can affect your unique environment, Wasabi strongly recommends that you seek guidance from your backup software’s technical support team if you encounter difficulties or have application-specific inquiries. ## Requirements - Active and licensed [Comet Account](https://cometbackup.com/signup). - Comet Server and Client Backup Software. This solution was most recently tested with version 26.1.3 Iapetus. - Active [Wasabi Cloud Storage account](https://wasabi.com/sign-up). - Active Comet backup jobs pointing to a Wasabi bucket. - Existing backups reside in a non-object locked (non-immutable) source bucket. The Object Lock feature is not supported in this scenario. - The password for your backups. ## High-Level Steps Follow the high-level steps below to implement Object Replication from a source bucket to a destination bucket in another region with Comet Backup. These are detailed further in the sections below. 1. Sign up for notifications to be sent to your account email address. 2. Create a Wasabi destination bucket to which the source bucket will be replicated. 3. Configure an object replication job on the source bucket pointing to the destination bucket. 4. In the case of a disaster, a recovery may be performed from the destination bucket. ## Sign Up for Object Replication Notifications Signing up for notifications will allow you to receive information about any object replication failures. 1. Log in to the [Wasabi Console](https://console.wasabisys.com/). 2. Navigate to **Settings**, then click **Notifications**. Next to Object Replication, enable **Email Notification**. Navigate to **Buckets** and locate the source bucket. Choose the region within the same continent for the destination bucket. > [!NOTE] > This configuration example uses Wasabi’s us-east-1 storage region for the source and us-west-2 for the destination. For a list of regions, see [Available Storage Regions](https://docs.wasabi.com/docs/where-is-my-data-stored-and-how-are-wasabis-storage-regions-secured#available-storage-regions). 3. Enter the destination bucket name and select the bucket region. Click **Create Bucket**. > [!NOTE] > Leave Object Replication disabled (default setting). Click **Object Replication.** Click **Create Replication Job**. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/bef0a1ea-7768-4d5a-b520-c4fe2f7fafad/Images/Documentation/Screenshot_2026-04-28_at_1_42_22 PM.png) 4. Select the Replication Type. For this example, we are selecting Replicate to a bucket within this account. Give the job a name, and click in the Destination Bucket text field to select the destination bucket. Click the checkbox next to Sync Deleted Objects. This allows Comet Backup to control the backup lifecycle of the source bucket, and older backups that Comet Backup deletes from the source bucket will also be deleted from the destination bucket. The objects in the source bucket will now begin to replicate to the destination. There is no ETA for completion as this depends on many factors, such as the number of objects and the frequency of backups. Log in to the [Wasabi Console](https://console.wasabisys.com/). Give the bucket a new name, then click **Rename Bucket**. Give the bucket the name of the ORIGINAL SOURCE bucket. To perform a restore, log in to a computer running the Comet Backup application. In the app, select the appropriate protected item. Select the Protected Item and Backup Date for the restore date. Select whether to restore files and folders or a compressed file. Choose which files or folders you want to restore. Choose where you want the data to be restored to and whether or not you wish to overwrite the existing files in the current path.
