    Article summary

What is the process to get guidance on restoring options with Veeam?

Veeam has many different environmental use cases that our end customers set up based on their requirements.

Therefore, data restoration process is handled by your specific backup software application (Veeam). As many potential variables will affect your unique environment, Wasabi strongly recommends that you seek the guidance of your backup software's technical support team if you encounter difficulty or have application-specific inquiries.

We recommend customers open a ticket with the Veeam Support Team for guidance on the restoration process. To open a Veeam Support Ticket, visit https://www.veeam.com/support.html and click Submit a Ticket.

Veeam offers several options for restoring data using its backup application.

    • Entire VM Restore: Restore an entire virtual machine from a backup to the original or a different location.

    • File-Level Restore: Restore individual files or folders from a backup without restoring the entire VM. This is useful for retrieving specific files or directories.

    • Volume-Level Restore: Restore specific volumes or disks from a VM backup.

    • Instant VM Recovery: Quickly restore a VM by running it directly from the backup file without waiting for the full restore process. This gets your VM up and running almost instantly.

    • Guest OS File Restore: Restore files or folders from within the guest operating system of a running VM.

    • Application Item-Level Restore: Restore specific application items, such as emails, databases, or other application data, without restoring the entire VM.

    • Backup Copy Restore: Retrieve data from a backup copy job, which provides an additional layer of protection by storing backups in a different location.

These options offer flexibility based on specific restoration needs, whether it is dealing with a complete system failure, dealing with accidental file deletion, or recovering individual application data.

If you are going to leverage immutable Veeam backups, follow the steps in Object Lock: Enabling.

Enabling bucket versioning only is not a proper configuration for immutable Veeam backups and can cause problems. If you are simply going to use regular Veeam backups with Wasabi buckets, bucket versioning is not required.
