Can I move the Control Folder to a different location?

When a source is a network share, rather than a local share on the Windows Server, Wasabi Cloud NAS (WCN) requires that a new folder is configured as a Control Folder. The Control Folder is only used to store stub file copies of the actual files on the network share. If Space Reclaiming is enabled, the Control Folder facilitates data retrieval to the network share.

The Control Folder can be moved only within the same volume. To move the Control Folder, follow the steps below.

  1. Navigate to the WCN Configuration Interface.
  2. Pause the WCN service.
  3. Delete the source (this does not delete any data).
  4. Use the following Move command on the new location: Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V.
  5. Add the source again and point WCN to the Control Folder in the new location.
  6. When prompted, select Take no action.
  7. Resume WCN.
