Restoring Data From a Covert Copy
Restoring from a covert copy bucket is a simple procedure following one of two paths, determined by what you need to recover.
To recover a small subset of objects, follow Accessing a Covert Copy Bucket and download the objects you need via the Console or programmatically.
To recover the entire bucket or a majority of the objects in the bucket, begin by reaching out to Wasabi Support to initiate a Restore Mode Request. Then, follow the procedure below.
Using Restore Mode
Once your request is approved, Restore Mode displays your bucket in the Console bucket list and enables you to access the objects in it as you would a normal bucket. During this time, it is not possible to modify the objects within the bucket. Restore Mode is only designed to retrieve your data from the bucket. Follow these steps on your bucket that has Restore Mode enabled:
Identify how you want to recover your data. If you are using a backup application, you can reference Wasabi Academy articles that describe how to retrieve your covert copy data with popular backup applications:
Comet Backup
MSP360 Backup
Veeam v12 Backup Copy Job
Veeam v12 Direct to Object Storage
Veeam v12 SOBRTake the steps you need to retrieve your data.
Once you have completed your data retrieval, contact Wasabi Support to disable Restore Mode, which will restore your bucket to its covert copy (protected and invisible) state.
Deleting a Covert Copy
Deleting a covert copy bucket follows the same process as deleting a bucket protected by MUA. When you attempt to delete a covert copy bucket, it must be in the Action Required state. This indicates that auto-renewal is disabled and the auto-renewal retention has expired.
It is possible to reapply auto-renewal to this bucket and restore it to a protected state.
Click on a bucket that is in the Action Required state, as shown in the example below.
Or, click
to access options for that bucket.Click Request Delete.

Confirm that you want to delete the bucket. The request will be sent to the security contact(s) assigned to the Delete Covert Copy Bucket activity in MUA.

Once your security contacts approve the delete request, the bucket will be deleted permanently. If the request is denied, the process must begin again.
