Getting Started with Wasabi Direct Connect (WDX) provides a quick overview of WDX services for new and prospective users.

Wasabi Storage Regions

  • For network planning and details about Wasabi’s storage regions and associated access points, refer to Where is my data stored and how are Wasabi's storage regions secured?

  • Megaport Direct Connect and Equinix Direct Connect (ECX) are available for use in all Wasabi storage regions (globally).

  • Flexential Hosted Services is available for use in all Wasabi storage regions in North America.

Signing Up for WDX

To sign up for WDX, contact Wasabi Sales. A Wasabi Sales Engineer will provide you with a questionnaire, which is used to generate a Letter of Authorization/Cross Facility Assignment (LOA/CFA) for the direct connect service (Ethernet Private Line only) and determine your connection requirements.

Account and Storage Region Information

You must provide the address of your on-premise data center or alternative storage location. If you are using AWS with WDX, provide your AWS Account ID.

Available Wasabi Direct Connect Service Rates

Wasabi offers the following service and transfer rates for Layer 2 (L2) circuits.

  • WDX Dedicated1 Gbps, 10 Gbps, and 100 Gbps

  • WDX Hosted1 Gbps and 10 Gbps

Layer 3 Information

Wasabi uses the /31 IP address to accept traffic from your data center.

Direct Connect Routing Method

WDX provides two Network Layer 3 (L3) routing options. You must select one of the following to use with WDX.

  • Network Address Translation (NAT)—Implement a NAT interface on your public-facing switch/router interfaces. This is a common option and involves standard static routing configurations.

  • Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)—Select one of two BGP configuration options: public or private (RFC1918) prefix advertisement (Wasabi requires these prefixes for network control and security). BGP provides the circuit with more dynamic characteristics that the BGP protocol supports (for example, dynamic failover to the public internet).

The WDX circuit will be provisioned with 2/31 subnet addresses for the connected router’s interface in all configurations.

For detail about using each routing option with Wasabi, refer to Connecting With WDX Dedicated and Connecting With WDX Hosted.

WDX With a Third-Party Cloud Service Provider (CSP)

If your data is stored with an alternative data center location or third-party CSP, such as AWS, WDX enables you to connect your S3-compatible service to one of Wasabi’s storage regions. If you are using WDX Hosted or Wasabi Interconnect, be sure to note any connection requirements provided by your hosted or interconnect partner.
