3—Configuring Wasabi Surveillance Cloud

Prev Next

Objectives

  • 1—Download and install Wasabi Surveillance Cloud.

  • 2—Activate the Wasabi Surveillance Cloud software.

  • 3—Configure Wasabi Surveillance Cloud.

After installing and activating WSC, you will configure the WSC software to begin uploading and replicating data to Wasabi. There are two ways to configure WSC.

  • In the Milestone XProtect Management Client

  • In the WSC Configuration Wizard

If you are a Milestone XProtect user, you must configure WSC for use with your VMS within the Milestone XProtect Management Client.

If you are not a Milestone XProtect user and are using another VMS instead, your VMS is considered a "standard VMS."

The information below describes the configuration details for both scenarios.

Configuring Milestone XProtect With WSC

If you are a Milestone XProtect user, enable the following policies available in Policies for Wasabi Surveillance Cloud within the XProtect management client during configuration.

  • Disaster Recovery (DR)—(required) A workflow management feature that automatically replicates your source data (and every object that is created in the local source location) and stores an identical copy of the source data in Wasabi object storage for redundancy.

  • Storage Extension (Extension)—(required) The Storage Extension feature extends your local storage capacity to the Wasabi cloud. This feature reclaims on-premise space by using a set retention time to determine when older data is automatically removed from local storage and moved to the cloud. When older data is moved to Wasabi object storage, newer data is kept on the local server.

Disaster recovery and Storage Extension can be enabled at the same time. The following table provides more details about each scenario. For configuration instructions, refer to Configuring Milestone XProtect With WSC.

Operation

When Storage Extension is enabled

Both Disaster Recovery and Storage Extension enabled on the same storage

Recoverability

All data (such as camera data, index/XML, and configuration metadata) is replicated to the Wasabi cloud as a safety copy. No data is moved off of the local disk.

Not available

Camera data, index/XML, and configuration metadata are replicated to the Wasabi cloud.

A DR restoral can rebuild the database and relink the stub (cloud-tiered) files back to a viewable state.

Tiering

Not available

Older camera data (block files) is moved to the Wasabi cloud and replaced with a stub file on the local source. This does not include the index/XML metadata needed to rebuild a database.

Camera data is tiered to the Wasabi cloud.

Wasabi recommends that both Disaster Recovery and Storage Extension are enabled to ensure that data does not solely exist on the local source in an unprotected state.

Configuring WSC for Use With Standard VMS Profiles

If you are not a Milestone XProtect user and are using another VMS, you will configure the WSC software for use with your VMS within the WSC Configuration Wizard. While configuring, you will do the following.

  • Pair your VMS with the WSC software (required)

  • Pair an initial target bucket with your VMS (required)

For configuration instructions, refer to Configuring WSC for Standard VMS.
