Wasabi is raising its security standards and deprecating support for FTP.
As part of Wasabi’s commitment to provide the highest security standards, we are announcing the deprecation of FTP in all regions.
These changes will be implemented on May 1, 2025. After this date, access to our storage services will require the use of a more secure protocol, such as FTPS (File Transfer Protocol Secure).
Our newest regions, EU West 3 (London) and EU South 1 (Milan), will not support FTP in any form.
FTP lacks encryption, making data transfers vulnerable to interception. Many FTP implementations are inherently insecure (not utilizing FTPS, for example), require overly expansive firewall rules that leave customers exposed, and have not offered the reliability customers expect due to several factors.
Once support for FTP is deprecated, any requests made from your client or application that is still utilizing these deprecated protocols will fail, as the connection will be refused. This will prevent file transfers using FTP.
To continue adding objects, you must update the client to use a supported protocol like FTPS in supported regions. Ensure that your FTP client supports FTPS. Popular clients typically do.
FTPS is a secure alternative that protects your data in transit using encryption protocols. Transitioning to these protocols aligns with modern security practices.
