The WCN shell extension, an integration with Windows Explorer, enables you to perform manual data management operations on folders and files.
The shell extension is accessible from a context menu that provides a list of the following operations:
Replicate—Replicate or copy a selected file or all files in the selected folder on the bucket. For more information, refer to Replicating Folders and Files.
Reclaim Space—Replace the selected replicated file (or all replicated files in the selected folder) with nearline file(s) pointing to the actual replicas on the bucket. For more information, refer to Reclaiming Space.
Retrieve Data—Retrieve a nearline file(s) from a folder in the bucket to restore a replicated file version on the source. For more information, refer to Retrieving Data.
Import from Bucket—Synchronize the contents of a source (or a folder on the source) with the contents of the bucket. For more information, refer to Synchronizing Data on the Source and the Bucket.
Import Recursively From Bucket—Synchronize the contents of a source (or a folder on the source) with the contents of the bucket, repeatedly. For more information, refer to Synchronizing Data on the Source and the Bucket.
Undelete—Recover a file that is accidentally deleted from the source by synchronizing the contents of the parent folder with the contents of the bucket. For more information, refer to Undeleting Data on the Source.
The respective commands are available only for files and folders to which they apply. For example, you cannot perform the reclaim space command on a nearline file.
When you manually initiate an operation through the shell extension, that operation takes precedence over any automatically scheduled tasks or policies. For example, if you manually replicate files using the shell extension, the replication will execute immediately and pause the automatic replication queue that is being processed at the moment.
Use NTFS permissions to control who can manage data at the source level through the WCN shell extension.
With a NAS source, stub files are located in the control folder and not on the network share. To perform a manual operation on them (retrieve a nearline file), you need to perform the manual operation on the stub file in the control folder. To learn more about data archiving on NAS sources, refer to Source Storage Requirements.
One of the following icons shows on a folder/file. Each icon indicates the status of folder(s) and file(s) subject to replication, space reclaiming, and/or archiving.
